The theme: "Learn and appreciate Natsume Soseki as a person."

This new variety of pop literature museum inside Hotel Tau provides an entrance to literature at your travel destination from the perspective of Natsume Soseki as a person. It is sure to be a place that both literature fans and those who have never read Soseki can enjoy.

At the museum's entrance is a shop full of original merchandise. Many of these items were created in collaboration with local businesses.

There is also a Kumamoto City Tourist Information Center in an adjacent facility that serves as a cultural hub for visitors.

Tau Library is sure to sate your curiosity and add new depth to your trip. Explore the space and spend time here in your own way as you peruse books selected by professionals on various topics, including art and culture, inspiring stories, literature, Soseki, exploring and studying Kumamoto, introducing literature and Soseki, and expanding methods of and attitudes around travel. Enjoy leisurely time with free coffee and your favorite book surrounded by literature.

The Tau staff has assembled over 5,000 books to color your trip with, including 2,000 manga volumes, a children's book corner, and 2,000 books about "Discovering Kumamoto," "Unraveling Soseki," and "Connecting with Culture."

The moment you step through the door, the hustle and bustle of the outside falls away, and a comfortable green space expands before your eyes. Guests are greeted with soft, natural light and fragrant plants, signalling a place of peace.

Established in 1991, this tea specialty shop is certified by the Japan Tea Association as a ‘Delicious Tea Shop.’ We carry nearly 20 varieties of fresh tea from major producing regions like India, Sri Lanka, and China. We serve tea in sets to match meals and sweets, and sell bags of tea leaves individually.

Our menu features treats with Soseki's favorite jam and sweet red bean paste with tea that matches his style.
